We wish you a Merry Christmas! We wish you a Merry
Christmas! We wish you a Merry Christmas! And a Happy New Year!
Feel free to break out singing. It's ok. This is supposed to be a joyous season.
And with that in mind, here are some tips to keep the joy in your holiday
shopping:
Tip #1: While shopping online, pay close attention to what site
you are on. Scammers have set up copycat sites of popular shopping venues using
popular misspellings/mistypings of the original site name. For example: are you
shopping on Nordstrom or Nordsrtom?
Tip #2: It doesn't matter if you shop online or not, you will
get emails claiming there has been a shipping problem. They might claim to be
from FedEx, UPS or the US Mail. And, they are stepping up the ante this year,
they are also sending text messages to confirm delivery. DO NOT,
I repeat, DO NOT click on any links or update any information
via these messages.
Tip #3: Did you make a big purchase at a big retailer? Are you
expecting a refund? If not, then you can safely delete the email claiming there
is a large refund coming your direction.
Tip #4: Your fax machine is not immune to scammers. Last week I
received a fax from some company claiming to live in Oklahoma. The fax is a bill
for $190 for online computer support. Really?? They’re trying to sell computer
repair to a computer repair shop! How insane is that? If you have an urge to
spend $190 for computer support, please call me. I will gladly "earn"
your money.
Tip #5: People are still getting calls from "Windows". I've
mentioned this in the past, but I will mention it again; there is no company
named "Windows". Windows is a product. It is owned by Microsoft. Microsoft will
not call the end user. If you get a call claiming your computer has errors and
they just want to help you "clean it up", you have my permission to tell them
you own a Mac. Normally, I don't condone lying, but this is the fastest way to
get them off the phone.
And finally, a reminder: If you're in business, a new computer
makes a great tax deduction. All Comp-U-Talk computers are custom built with
your choice of Windows 7 or Windows 8. And when you buy local, you support the
local economy and get local support. Added bonus: local support speaks English
fluently. Current pricing is
here.
Wishing you an
abundance of Joy this season,
~Janet
